"Teachers in Germany often look for short and very authentic literary texts for their lessons. Short Takes [a collection of short narratives] from Merlyn's Pen has earned many friends among these teachers."
--Joachim Larche, Editor, Cornelsen Verlag, Germany
YA literature editors, EFL/ESL publishers, and high-stakes test developers use the New Library of Young Adult Writing as a source of high-interest writing models that appeal to young readers 12 to 18. Projects using Merlyn's Pen works have been launched in 11 countries.
Each piece in the New Library is juried: nearly all first appeared in Merlyn's Pen magazine, the most selective American publisher of teens for 15 years. Other works took first prize in national and international writing contests, outshining hundreds of competing works in the same category. Contests are ongoing. One can even find stories by authors who are now earning acclaim in the New York Times, Publisher's Weekly, and The Observer. So if you're an editor seeking rich content for your next project, time spent in the New Library will reward your efforts. Contact merlyn@merlynspen.org to arrange a meeting at the next international book fair.
"These stories are high interest for high motivation, providing great possibilities for discussion."

Selections from Merlyn's Pen are popular because Merlyn's Pen is the "Ivy League" of student publishing. Fewer than 1% of submissions make it to the final pool of publishing candidates. Each writer is under 19 years old, and many go on to careers in writing. A few make it to the literary world's top echelon.
Editors can easily search the New Library by Genre, Topic, Grade Level, and Region. Brief descriptions preview each piece.
If you explain your editorial goals to Merlyn's Pen, our editors will use their familiarity with the New Library to build a "short list" for your review. This free service saves you time and money. Contact merlyn@merlynspen.org to discuss your needs or to arrange a meeting at the next book fair.
Thousands of writers under 20 each year compete for showcasing in the New Library when they enter its contests. Further, upcoming alliances with selective teen publishers will make the New Library a one-stop venue for finding top new works by writers under 20.
